Inexpensive but tasty spaghetti bolognese!

Here is one of the simpliest italian dishes, which will feed the family even on a tight budget!


450g beef mince;
1 onion, chopped;
1 carrot, peeled and diced
2 cloves garlic, peeled and finely diced;
400g can of chopped tomatoes;
2 tbsp tomato puree;
3 tbsp red wine
1 tbsp olive oil;
150ml water;
1 tsp beef stock
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp sugar
Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh egg pasta to serve. Spaghetti or tagliatelle would be ok.
25g parmesan to finish

Recipe Method
Heat the oil in a large saucepan, cook the onion and carrot for about 5 mins until soft. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the mince, stir, and cook for 3 minutes until its brown all over.

Then add the tomatoes, stock, tomato puree, herbs, sugar, red wine and water.

Stir and bring to the boil. Cover, reduce heat and leave to cook gently for 1hr.

When ready season to taste.

Serve with lightly buttered and seasoned pasta.

Sprinkle parmesan over the top.
